Anton ‘Tony’ Quale died peacefully with his son by his side on Tuesday morning, December 2, at the Birchwood Health Care Center in Forest Lake, Minnesota. Tony and Carl, his twin, were born on September 25, 1916 to Anna (Kvigstad) and Ole Quale on a farm near Sebeka, Minnesota. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Ann and Jon (Rosalie) Quale; brothers: Melvin (Joan) and Donald (Delores) Quale; sister, Ida (Claire) Lindeke; grandchildren: Lindsey, Katie, and Nikolai; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters, a nephew and a great-nephew.
At age 18 Tony moved to Baudette, Minnesota where he ran a trap line and did some logging. Tony served in the army between 1942 and 1945. After being discharged he moved back to Baudette, Minnesota where he worked as a farm hand, a logger, and a telephone lineman before raising beef cattle on a farm in the ‘Meadows.’ In 1956 he changed his bachelor ways and married Mary June Sorensen. The couple moved to a nearby farm and started dairy farming. In 1966 Tony sold the dairy herd and started working at the U.S. Air Force Radar Base located near Baudette. He worked at the base until retiring in 1979. Tony and Mary moved to Linwood Township in October 1996.
Tony was known as a prankster and enjoyed a good story. He was a skilled hunter and taught the young people who hunted with him about hunting and staying safe in the woods. As a young man he played baseball and later was a regular in a bowling league far into retirement. He enjoyed curling and was easily the oldest curler on the ice at bonspiels in Rainy River, Ontario. He transplanted hundreds of trees and took pride in the family garden. Tony enjoyed children, and especially loved his children and grandchildren. Tony had many friends in the Baudette and Sebeka area. He and Mary were active in the Brink Senior Center in Baudette until they moved from the area.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20
