Arbutus L. Shalander

Arbutus L. (nee Simonson) Shalander, age 96, of Scandia, MN, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family, at October Cottage Eldercare on February 21, 2024.

Arbutus was a particular woman who found solace in her gardening, the pages of her favorite books, engaging in spirited games of Scrabble, and watching her beloved game shows. Her face would light up with joy whenever she was surrounded by her grandkids and great-grandkids, who held a special place in her heart.

A known fixture in the community, Arbutus took great pleasure in her routine visits to Meister's Bar and Grill in Scandia, where she would indulge in her favorite lunch, often extending the meal into a leisurely coffee session. Proudly rooted in Scandia, Minnesota, she spent her life contributing to and being a cherished part of the close-knit fabric of her hometown.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rose Simonson; husband, Charles; infant son, Kevin; siblings; great grandson, Max; and other dear family members.

She is survived by children, Kathy (John) Carlisle, Bonnie (Jorge) Synicyn, Sandy Koppy, Greg (Tracy) Shalander; grandchildren, Stacey (Todd) Cunningham, Stephanie (Bill Markovich) LeDuc, Kristen (Nic) Uilk, Daniel (Tijah) Carlisle, Michael (Leah) Synicyn, Matthew (Melinda) Synicyn, Mark (Nicole) Synicyn, Michelle (Charles) Haylock, Brooke (Conrad Evans) Radtke, Cory Radtke, Andrew Koppy, Alex (Lexi Zowacki) Shalander, Abbie Shalander; great grandchildren, Olivia, Wyatt, Cole, Navin, Chloe, Luella, Ingrid, Makenzie, Hunter, Michael, Brooklynn, Kailee, Taylor, Matthew, Alexandra, Charles, Connor, Claira, Maddyx, Parker, Krew, Callan; many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.  

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Elim Lutheran Church, located at 20971 Olinda Trail North in Scandia. Family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church.   Burial at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Scandia.
