Beverly A. Pratt (nee Phillipsen), 80, of Scandia, Minnesota died May 13, 2010. Born May 6, 1930, in Rice Lake, WI, she grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School in 1948. She married Douglas Pratt in 1951 and began a lifelong partnership with him, raising a family of seven children. Beverly was known for her love of books, prodigious cooking, skill as a seamstress, unbridled enthusiasm for her Scandinavian heritage, love of travel, and commitment to service. Beverly lived a life of passion and purpose, and was happiest when she could use her talents to improve the lives of others. Among her accomplishments she shared her love of books as a librarian in the Washington County Libraries for 18 years, she pursued social justice causes through her involvement in DFL politics; she helped found Gammelgarden museum which honors Minnesota’s early Swedish settlers; and she served on the Scandia Township Board. Beverly was active in Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, serving on the church council, as the church librarian, as president and vice president of Elim Women of the ELCA, singing in the choir and volunteering tirelessly. Beverly and Douglas built a home in the woods in Scandia, MN in 1973 where they lived their remaining years. They also owned a cabin on Big Marine Lake which holds a special place in family members’ hearts. Beverly is preceded in death by her husband Douglas. She is survived by seven children, Gregory (Patricia), Christopher (Marcia Thomas), Steven (Aimee Wynn), Jeffrey, and Timothy (Kara), of the Twin Cities area, Greta (Mark Peterson) of Norfolk, Virginia, and Analisa (Christopher Harris) of Menlo Park, California, twelve grandchildren, and two sisters, Betty (Tviete) of Grand Rapids, MN and Marilyn (Duffy) of Stevens, PA.   Donations to Elim Lutheran Church of Scandia or the University of Minnesota Foundation are appreciated ( www.giving.umn.edu , the Douglas C. Pratt Undergraduate Scholarship). Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Elim Lutheran Church, 20971 Olinda Trail North, Scandia, Minnesota. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake; continuing one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Elim Lutheran Cemetery.
