Charles Love

Charles A. Love, age 96, of Forest Lake; formerly of Stillwater, Minnesota, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Charles was born March 25, 1920 in Koblenz, Germany. He came to the United States with his mother in 1921. Following high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and proudly served for five years during WWII. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Gladys Anderson and together they made their home in Stillwater, Minnesota; where he worked as a prison guard for the Minnesota Correctional Facility. After 28 years of service, he retired as a lieutenant. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the St. Johns Masonic Lodge #1 in Stillwater. Charles enjoyed music; especially playing the guitar and accordion. He also enjoyed working in the yard, playing golf and fishing. He never forgot his German heritage. He enjoyed his travels "back home" and was proud to recall and use the German language when the opportunity allowed. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his ability to cheer people on and leading them to see the brighter side of life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Christina; wife, Gladys; granddaughter, Sharon Love; siblings, Ellie and Walter. He is survived by children, Darryl (Gisela) Love, Linda (Sam) Thompson; grandchildren, Susan O'Day, Jody (Steve) Storkan, Chris Thompson; great-granddaughter, Megan Storkan; brother, Alfred (Rose) Love; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to a Veteran charity of choice.
