David L. Gilson, age 75, of Columbus, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 17, 2025.

David was born on August 3, 1949, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Howard and Lorayne (Sonnenburg) Gilson. He grew up in Saint Paul, attending Washington High School before graduating from Mechanic Arts High School in 1967. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Following his service, David returned home and began his career as an iron worker with Twin Cities Iron Workers 512. His strong work ethic, perseverance, and skill left a lasting impact on those he worked alongside.

Later in life, fate brought David back together with, Christine Ciccarelli. Their love story came full circle when they were married on April 20, 2000, in Saint Paul. Together, they built a life in Columbus, Minnesota, filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.

David had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life—Motown music, dancing, westerns, and trips to the ocean. He was a man of unwavering loyalty, a fierce spirit who never backed down from a challenge, and someone who would always lend a hand to those in need. His warm, unforgettable hugs will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved grandson, Trevor Chester; and his sister, Karen Weidemann; brother-in-law, Werner Weidemann.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Ciccarelli; his children, Cam Ciccarelli, Tony Anderson, Ryan Gilson, and Lea (Andre) Gilson Kight; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Richard (Louise) Gilson and Dennis (Carol) Gilson; as well as many other cherished family members and dear friends.

David’s legacy of strength, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His family invites all who knew him to celebrate his life and share memories.

The family will greet friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2025, at the American Legion Post 225, 335 West Broadway Avenue, Forest Lake. A military ritual service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Forest Lake American Legion.  Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

In honor of David’s generous spirit, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude.
