David Joseph Lyles was born July 11, 1963 to Judith A. Lyles in Carson, California. He spent his boyhood in Missouri, moving to Minnesota when he was 13. At the age of 16, Dave began
running a printing press for T.V. Times. In 1981 he met Janet Ruzsa, the love of his life. Together they welcomed their children; Danielle in 1983, Crystal in 1984, Brian in 1987, and Troy in 1991. Sadly, Crystal died in infancy. Janet and David were united in marriage in 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the time they were starting their family, Dave left T.V. Times and went on to work for Zahl Petroleum Maintenance as a Heavy
Equipment Operator. Dave spent many years working for Zahl. He was good at what he did and loved his job. He was not only proud of his work, but even prouder when his sons Brian and Troy joined the company. Every time someone had a compliment for one of the boys' work, Dave would beam. In addition to his family and career, Dave loved hunting, fishing and hanging out with his grandkids. His grandson Jordan was his little buddy, doing everything with him. Dave loved being outdoors and
especially liked huge bonfires, to the extent the fire department would be called in. He once even put a boat in the fire, much to the chagrin of Janet. He was a great mechanic and loved teaching the skill to the boys. His biggest dream was restoring his '68 GTO, which his boys will carry on for him. Dave was very
funny, always smiling and had unlimited patience. He was a wonderful husband, father and papa. David passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on
October 31, 2014. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife Janet; children, Danielle (Antonio) Trejo, Brian (Becky Stoffel), Troy; grandchildren, Dallas, Kaleb, Alyssa, Jordan; mom, Judith (Herb) Guthmiller; brothers, Danny (Val) Byrne, John Lyles; sisters, Cindy (John) Michaletz, Tammy (Ron) Otten; nieces, nephews and many friends. Celebration of David's Life will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Gathering of family and friends one hour prior to service.
