Deborah Ann Anderson (Steen), age 52
Longtime Educator, of Forest Lake, MN,
died unexpectedly and peacefully in her bed on September 28, 2007.
She was born March 28, 1955 in Britton, South Dakota to Arlie & Mary (Green) Steen. Deborah grew up in Wahpeton, ND. She attended NDSCS and received her Bachelor's Degree from UND with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Ed. She went on to receive her Master's Degree from St. Cloud State, MN.
Deborah dedicated her career to those with special needs. She began teaching in Brainerd, MN in 1976. She married John David Anderson on August 25, 1979 in Wahpeton and began what became a ten year position teaching for the Dickinson School District. In 1988, Deborah and John moved to Forest Lake, where they raised their three children, Jacob, Lucas and Meghan. In 1991 she began working with the Forest Lake School District. She taught in Forest Lake, Chisago City, and was currently teaching LD Special Ed at Linwood Elementary.
Along with Mike Dornseif, Deborah was instrumental in founding the Alternative Learning Center, now the Central Learning Center in Forest Lake. Later, she initiated the Strive Program.
Deborah was passionate about each child she had the honor of teaching, evidenced by all who knew her and her family.
She cherished the time spent with her family and shared her joy of sports, gardening, reading, and travel with them.
Deborah was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Steen and brother, Paul Steen. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, John; children, Jacob of Denver, CO, Lucas and Meghan of Forest Lake; father, Arlie of Clitheral, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation 6-8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Forest Lake.
