Dirk Douglas Schumacher, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at M Health Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming, Minnesota. Born on May 17, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Dennis and Mary Ann (DeBlieck) Schumacher, Dirk grew up in Blaine, Minnesota, where he graduated from Blaine High School in 1977. He went on to earn a degree in Journalism from the University of Minnesota in 1986.
A dedicated and compassionate professional in the gas and oil industry, Dirk worked for companies such as Sinclair, Cenex, and Conoco Phillips. He retired as the CEO and General Manager of the Town & Country Co-ops in Finley and Cooperstown, North Dakota.
Dirk was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist with a deep love for hunting. Dirk also had a passion for gardening, canning, grilling, and cooking. He recently married Kathy Knickerbocker and shared their time between their home in Litchfield, Minnesota, and Cooperstown, North Dakota with their cherished Dachshund, Kipper.
Dirk was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Amelia and Gus Longstrom; grandparents, Julius and Grace DeBlieck; father, Dennis Schumacher; uncles, Jim, John, Thomas, and Donald DeBlieck; and cousin, Todd DeBlieck.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; her son, Jackson Edrington; his mother, Mary Ann Schumacher; sister, Julie Schumacher; brothers, Dean (Cindy) Schumacher and Dave (Amy) Schumacher; his longtime friend and hunting buddy, Tim Deal; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 28th, 2024, at Hope Free Lutheran Church, 18323 Lexington Ave NE, Columbus, Minnesota 55092.
A luncheon will follow at the Coon Lake Community & Senior Center, 182 Forest Road, East Bethel, Minnesota, 55092.
