Donald M. Holl, "Donnie", age 91 years and 5 months peacefully departed this world on February 5, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Choosing to be a lifetime resident of Forest Lake, Minnesota and a member of The Church of Saint Peter, he loved that these were places where his family, his friendships and his faith flourished.
Being a devout Catholic was important followed by his love of family and country.
Don had a great sense of humor, loved to tease and 95% of the time had a smile on his face.
He greatly enjoyed time spent with family, wood cutting, hayrides and bonfires at the farm, time at the lake, camping and road trips with the kids. He loved to tell a good story. He especially loved sitting on the deck, a beer in hand, he was never afraid to share his opinion and allowed you a small window to express yours. He would often comment to Snookie, "can't believe how lucky we are".
Don was self-taught and known for his tinkering and modifying anything be it new or used to his own specifications. His grandkids enjoyed laughing with him while repairing something as he was fond of saying, "let's hurry up and get this done before grandma gets home". Donnie truly was a Jack of All Trades.
After proudly serving in the Army during the Korean War, Don was employed for over 30 years at Sperry/Univac. Upon retirement he served on Connexus Energy Board of Directors as well as Great River Energy Board of Directors for over 20 years, where he made countless close friends.
Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Luella “Snookie”; children, Mark, Barb Sapp (Dan), Monica Aarthun (Bob), Kelly Summers (Mark); true apples of his eyes, his grandchildren, Molly, Samantha (Josh), Hannah (Brian), Sarah (Vincent), Adam (Samantha), Audrey, Grace (Colton), Pete and Lili, and great-grandchildren, Luella, Dawson, Logan, Makenna, Brooks, Norah, Olivia, Ruby, Teddy, Vaeva and Axel. Also survived by sisters, Nadine Johnson, Marguerite Jeans, Rosalie Hall and brother, Leo Holl.
Preceded in death by parents, Ray and Jane Holl, sisters, Mary Johnson, Ellen Carlson and brothers, Richard Holl and Bob Holl.
The family extends a special thanks to Athena Miles for her love and kindness and providing compassionate care.
This easy-going man was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. Don's journey on this earth was marked by love, kindness, thoughtfulness and a truly large dose of humor. This simple genuine man will be greatly missed.
