Dorothy Holmquist

Dorothy Anna Holmquist passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017. Dorothy was born January 9, 1931 in Cedar, Minnesota to Roland and Flora (Pontius) Kable. Dorothy grew up in the Cedar area on the family farm and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1948. Upon graduating from St. Francis HS, Dorothy worked for Nash Finch Company, an insurance company for 2.5 years and was then a cook at Cedar Elementary School for 15 years. On April 21, 1951 Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Holmquist at Cedar United Methodist Church. Raymond and Dorothy lived on and continually worked the family farm which included a roadside stand after retirement for ten years. Dorothy loved to cook, bake, garden, work on word finds, needlework, camping and of course watching "Young and the Restless". Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, brother Gilbert, sisters Myrtle, Edith and Blanche; and son-in-law, Steve Schipper. Dorothy is survived by her children: Ron (Cindy) Holmquist, Donna Schipper, Nancy (Jeff Smith) Holmquist, David (Sheila) Holmquist. Grandchildren: Jen, Kim (Graewert) Holmquist; Jeff, Amy (McDaniel) Schipper;





Randi-Marie, Ryan, Jesse Smith, Jodi Parent; Sara (Erie), Liz (Carlson), Josh, Ivan Holmquist. Great-grandchildren: Mason, Aiden, Kyra Graewert; Josie, Leo Schipper, Cullin, Summer Schwintek; Sawyer, Noah McDaniel; James, Jacob, Jackson Wheeler; Nia Erie, Maddy and Ellie Carlson; Sister, Irene and brother, Alfred Kable. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Cedar United Methodist Church, 17541 Jefferson Street NE, Cedar. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake; continuing one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at GracePointe Crossing for their wonderful care of Dorothy.
