Dorothy Caroline Shalander was born to Hjalmer and Myrtle Shalander on March 27, 1927 at her grandparent's home in Stillwater, MN. She died peacefully October 7, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Stillwater, MN. She grew up in Scandia, MN with her parents and brothers, Reuben and Charles. Her parents owned The Scandia Store, currently known as Meister's Bar and Grill, and lived directly across the street. She had great pals to grow up with who became and still are her dearest friends and family. Dorothy married her sweetheart, Philip Anderson on April 5, 1952 at Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN. They began their married life farming and sharing their residence with Phil's parents, Ernie and Eva. She loved her life of creating their home, gardening, cooking, and many skills of sewing and music. Best of all, she loved raising their four children, Dave, Jim, Valerie and Carol. She was a loving and nurturing wife and mother. There was lots of hard work on the farm, yet always time for fun. She played the accordion, loved to dance, bowl, and golf, go to card club, and watch Phil play ball on the Scandia Fast Pitch Softball team. Philip and Dorothy had a wonderful marriage of thirty one years, until Phil passed away in 1983. Dorothy has been a dedicated member of Christ Lutheran Church, of Marine, for over fifty years, since she joined on June 4, 1952. Her entire life has reflected her love and dedication to her strong faith in God. Dorothy extended her family when she married Ace Parker on March 11, 1989. They had a wonderful marriage of eighteen years. They moved to the Cottages of Scandia, where their life there was filled with so many great times with lots of friends. Dorothy's family, along with her heart, has expanded with the addition of her wonderful daughters in law, sons in law and grandchildrens' spouses. She called them all her own. Dorothy has thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren, with one on the way. Together, Ace and Dorothy have nine more grandchildren, and many more great grandchildren. They were all the bright light in her life. They all had a very special relationship with Grandma, and will cherish her love always. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, sisters in law, brother in law and so many dear friends. She will live in our hearts forever. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, 150 5th street, Marine on St. Croix.
