Edith Anderson

November 30, 1919 — June 23, 2014

Edith Elaine Adeline (Nelson) Anderson, of Cedar, died June 21, 2014. She was born November 30, 1919 to Joshua S. and Ella (Johnson) Nelson in Nicollet County. Edith graduated in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the U of MN, where she was also a member of Beta of Clovia. On January 7, 1949, Edith married Frank Anderson in Scandian Grove, MN. She worked as the Extension County Agent in Beltrami and Anoka Counties, as a substitute teacher in many different Anoka County school districts, and as the homebound teacher in the St. Francis School District until she retired in 1991. Edith was an active volunteer in the community. She coordinated the Soderville Red Cross Bloodmobile for 25 years, delivered Meals-on-Wheels for 20 years, and was a member of the Befriender Program. She also served on the Anoka County CAP Senior Council. Edith was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was recognized as a WCCO Good Neighbor, received the 2003 East Bethel Citizen of the Year Senior Achievement Award, and was a member of the Lone Elm Mothers Club. Edith will be remembered for her cookies, which her children and neighbors prized. Those who know her will fondly recall: the cards that she sent every year for special occasions to family and friends; the letters she sent weekly to family members who were away from home, and postcards sent to homebound friends; her poetry that captured the feelings of everyday moments in verse; her handmade dresses; birthday cakes; and for confounding airport security around the world with her garter and stockings. Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Zoe Elie; sisters, Elinore Erickson, Ella Grimsbo; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Kerber Anderson. She is survived by her children, Kirk, Kim, Kent (Priscilla), Kay; grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Eric, Christopher (Sheri), Sarah (Betsy Ferrell), Marie Sams, Aaron, Amanda (Brett) Connor, Adriana; great granddaughter, Meaghan Connor; special friend, Ilene Hudak; a large extended family and friends.
