Eric DDS

Eric E. Stafne, D.D.S., age 75 of Forest Lake, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Stafne received his D.D.S. in 1960 from the University of Minnesota. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps from 1960 to 1962 then returned to the School of Dentistry, receiving his M.S.D. in Periodontics in 1965. He went into private practice in 1965 and was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontics at the UniversityA�A�A½s School of Dentistry that same year. In 1970 he was appointed Associate Professor, and in 1982 Clinical Professor at the school. He became a full time Clinical Professor in 1989. After 37 years of devoted service, Dr. Stafne retired from the University of Minnesota as Director of the Periodontic Clinic in 2000. He continued directing the dental schoolA�A�A½s Tobacco Cessation Clinic, which he developed, until early this year. Among his many achievements, Dr. Stafne served on the MN Dental AssociationA�A�A½s House of Delegates and presided over the St. Paul District Dental Society . He was an active volunteer at the American Cancer Society, holding numerous positions, including President of the Minnesota Division (only the second dentist to do so) and as a medical delegate to the National Society. Dr. Stafne was a beloved colleague, professor and friend. As one colleague reflected, A�A�A½Dr. StafneA�A�A½s list of impressive achievements, honors and wide-ranging interests reflects his lifetime commitment to patient care, academic excellence and to his profession.A�A�A½ Dr. Stafne was a loving family man who leaves behind to mourn his loss, wife Dorie Jean of 49 years; children, Mark (Cindy), Lonie (Todd) Adams; grandchildren, Alyssa and Lauren Stafne, Katie and Nick Adams; sister Barbara (Roger) Young. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and again following the service. Private family inurnment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
