Faye Barott

August 16, 1916 — March 2, 2015

Faye Barott, age 98 of Stacy, Minnesota passed away peacefully in the accompaniment of her pastor on March 2, 2015.

She was born in Delano, Minnesota on August 16, 1916 to parents Walter and Mini (Snodgrass) Gilson. She is preceded in death by her first husband Alvin Dammann, Sr., second husband Edgar Barott; her 3 children Alvin, Jr., Alvina LaBelle Sommerfield and Audrey Olson. Faye was one of 9 children to Walter and Mini. In 1932 she married her first husband Alvin Dammann in Askov where they lived with Alvin's parents in Bruno, Minnesota and while living there they rented and ran the Bruno Bar. In 1940 they moved to Stacy, Minnesota. Wherein Faye had taken several jobs – she "took" over the Rustic Inn Restaurant for 5 years; she worked in the Stacy Grocery Store and worked in North Branch where she candled eggs. She also worked at Federal Cartridge for 7 years, where she claims she learned to shoot a gun. She and her children then moved into an apartment in downtown St. Paul while she worked at Miller Hospital in St. Paul where she worked as an "aid" we now know them as "candy stripers". In 1959, she worked as an inspector at Honeywell and she retired 20 years later. Faye had many friends and told many stories about going to dances in the building where the old Stacy-Lent Fire Hall was located. This is where she said that she met her second husband Edgar Barott, She would talk about going to the dances and that it cost anywhere from a nickel or dime and sometimes even a quarter to get in. She said they used to pay a nickel per dance and she would smile as she remembered dancing. A few things that you may not know about Faye were that her first car was Buick; however, her favorite car was a Chevy. The family got their first TV when Alvina broke her leg in an accident. She said that was what led her to her favorite TV shows she loved Jeopardy, because she couldn't believe people knew all that stuff; she loved Wheel of Fortune, because she liked the word games. But her all time favorite TV was watching her Minnesota Twins in good times and bad. One of Her favorite gift was from her grandson, Kris; he went to a Minnesota Twins Home Opening game and received a hat from Mike Morris of the World Series Minnesota Twins. She wore that hat when she would watch the Twins. She wanted to meet Billy Martin when he coached the Minnesota Twins and felt that he was the best coach.

Her favorite movie was Gone with the Wind, wherein, she said that she had a crush on Rhett Butler. Faye's favorite food was chicken wings. Her favorite dessert was pumpkin pie or anything lemon. Faye was well known to her grandchildren for making her famous doughnuts and up until a few years ago was still making them for her kids. Faye did some traveling including a trip to Niagara Falls with her husband Edgar. She enjoyed that trip so much that she wanted to go back one more time. She said that she had an opportunity to go to Ireland; however, it did not work out for her.

Faye had many memorable things happen in her life including the birth of her children. She said that becoming a grandma for the first time was exciting too. Another memorable moment and favorable time was when her grandchildren began making her a great-grandma. When asked what her most favorite memory was it was when her great-grandson David graduated from college.

When she was asked if there was anything in her life that she would change, she proudly said with a big huge grin – I have lived a full life; I have a big family, would I change anything? Absolutely not. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends, Faye is survived by generations of family and will be missed by all.
