Gary Shostedt

Gary William Shostedt, age 67, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 of complications to Parkinson 's Disease. He had been a resident of Ecumen Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City, MN for the last 2 ½ years. Gary was born February 14, 1948 to Frederick and Genevieve Shostedt in Stillwater, MN. After graduating high school and attending one year at Bemidji State College he joined the US Navy and was stationed in Cuba. In 1973, he married Bonnie Nelson from Hallock, Minnesota who he met on a blind date, and was married for 41 ½ years. To this union was born son, Zachary and daughter, Siri. He lived most of his married life in Forest Lake, MN. In 1973, Gary started working at the phone company (now known as Century Link). In 2006 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and while still being able to work in 2007 he was in an accident while on the job and ended up with a below the knee amputation. He retired the next year. Gary loved to be outdoors, hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, chopping wood and planting anything to see it thrive. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gen; infant sister. Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie; son, Zachary (Shannon); daughter, Siri (Jeff) Bailey; grandsons, Derek, John, Teddy; a very good dear friend and neighbor, Bob; many aunts, uncles, cousins; family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at Linwood Covenant Church, 6565 Viking Blvd. NE, Wyoming. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
