Gene Robert Berglund, age 84, of Chisago City, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1940, in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, the son of Einer and Hazel (Carlson) Berglund.
Gene was a proud graduate of Forest Lake High School, Class of 1958. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country. It was during his time in the military that he met Barbara Brown, the love of his life. They met in Spokane, Washington, where they later married, beginning a lifelong partnership.
Following his discharge from the military, Gene returned to Minnesota and pursued specialized courses in Orthotics and Prosthetics. He worked his way up and went on to have a long and fulfilling career, eventually serving as the Director of Orthotics and Prosthetics at Gillette Children's Hospital where he worked for over 27 years. Gene’s work had a lasting impact on the lives of countless children and families, and his compassion and dedication will be remembered by all who worked with him.
After retiring, Gene and Barbara moved to Chisago City, where they bought a home on Little Green Lake. They enjoyed many days entertaining friends, neighbors, and family on the deck, often hosting gatherings filled with laughter, good food, and camaraderie. Gene had a passion for cooking, grilling, and hosting fish fries, always ensuring there was something delicious for everyone to enjoy.
In his retirement Gene enjoyed his free time, Gene loved to spend time outdoors, whether it was boating, hunting, fishing, or playing golf. He and Barbara also cherished their winters in Texas, where they made many fond memories.
Gene will be remembered for his warm, caring nature, his devotion to family, and his love of adventure and the great outdoors. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; daughters, Tracy Berglund, Jacquie Berglund; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Einer and Hazel; siblings, Ronnie Berglund, Wally Berglund, Margie Anderson.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held.
Gene's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy of being a character of sorts, his kindness, love, and service will never be forgotten.
