Gerald Armstrong

Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Friend… Gerald "Jerry" Arthur Armstrong, age 87, died early in the morning, March 2, 2015. He was born in Minneapolis, MN, and grew up in the Forest Lake area. After serving two hitcheswith the US Army, Staff Sergeant Armstrong returned to Minnesota.He and his bride, Charlene, started their family in Stacy, MN, and then moved to rural Lindstrom where they lived for many years before moving to Pine City. Jerry was a retired full-time farmer and rural-route mail carrier for the Scandia area. After retirement, he worked as a Conklin Salesman for another 25 years. He was the classic farmer, loving all animals especially his horses and his dogs, along with a special interest in forestry and conservation. Heloved everything that allowed him to be outside, especially gardening, fishing, and hunting.He is preceded in death by his soul-mate of 58 years Charlene, his parents James and Anna, brothers James, Ronald, Kenneth and Tim. He is survived by his children: Karen, Connie (Paul), Tom (Cathy), Peggy, Mark (Gaye), Susan, Amy (Brian), Dan (Jennifer) and foster-couple Wendy and Jeff. He was also blessed with 26 grandchildren: Brian, Jared, Noah, Kyle, Rachel, Megan, Nicole, Annamarie, Joseph, Marykay, Jessica, Adam, Terry, Nyssa, Hannah, Steven, Cassandra, Michael, Lillyanne, Eric, Travis, Mari, Lakeisha, Anthony, Angel, Abbey and 18 great-grandchildren: Attison, Saige, Kaleb, AriElla, Austin, Benjamin, Andrew, Julius, Elias, Lila, Violet, Emma, Ashlyn, Alexandra, Alex, Evan, Logan and Piper. He is also survived by his sisters, Marcella Whitman and Margaret (George)Ahlstromand brother, Richard (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews. A special place was held in his heart for the Matt and Tisha Lott family. There were many people Jerry treated as though they actually were his kids, it would be impossible to mention them all. Jerry also leaves behind the love and friendship of his in-laws, many neighbors, and the many friends with whom he traveled south. A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25267 Redwing Avenue, Shafer. The family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake; and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Twitchell Cemetery, Lino Lakes. Memorials may be made to Twitchell Cemetery or the American Cancer Society.
