Gerald Fraser

Gerald R. Fraser, age 87 of Forest Lake, died while surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center, Wyoming, Minnesota. Gerald was born December 11, 1925 in Winona, Minnesota the son of James and Mary (Carney) Fraser. He graduated from Winona High School and went on to further his education, graduating from Winona State Teacher's College with a degree in English. He also received his Master's Degree in English from the University of Iowa. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He was united in marriage to Edith Fritscher on August 19, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona, Minnesota . He retired from Cooper High School following 28 years of teaching in 1983. In his free time, Gerald enjoyed golfing, reading, singing and working crossword puzzles. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and held season tickets every year. Gerald will be fondly remembered for his LOVE of ice cream. Some may say he never met a bowl of ice cream he did not like! He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edith, daughter, Pamela; seven siblings. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him including his children, Kathy Fraser, Valerie (Michael) Martin, James (Laurie Kurtz) Fraser, Susan (Bruce) Olson, Cynthia Fraser; eight grandchildren, Bruce (Misty) Martin, Michelle Martin, James Martin, Matthew Martin, Garrett (Tyra) Olson, Drew Olson, Jeremy Fraser, Edie Fraser; three great grandchildren, Katherine Martin, Ryan Martin, Avery Olson; other family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake; continuing from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Interment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Winona, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to the Winona State Scholarship Fund.
