Gerald R Thacker, a resident of Lino Lakes Assisted Living, died there Friday, June 19. He was 92. He was born in Milwaukee on March 29, 1923, son of Percy and Lillian Thacker. He graduated from Washington High School in 1941. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in Texas with the 9th Air Defense Command. He was deployed overseas during WWII to North Africa, England, Normandy France, and Liege Belgium.
On June 4, 1949 he married Mary Ann Walters at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss on June 4, 1999 with family. Three children grew out of this marriage, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. They lived in Milwaukee until moving to Hudson, Wisconsin in 1993. He retired after 33 years in a wonderful profession and the" best job in the world" with Royal Doulton as a salesman of fine English bone china. He enjoyed traveling, especially camping, collecting stamps and coins, music and putting together scrapbooks. He loved to tease and joke with friends and family. He rarely complained and had a sunny, optimistic view of life. Surviving are two sons, David (Luann), Bob (Nancy); a daughter, Patti (Jerry Norton); six grandchildren, Nick, Lindsey, and Katie, Mary, Sam, and Andy; three great grand-children, Nathan, Olivia and Gabriella, and a sister-in-law Joanne Walters of Texas.
Preceding him in death were, his wife, his parents, a twin sister, Gerry, and a sister, June. He will be greatly missed. Private Services will be held with interment to follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery
