Grace Shattuck

August 23, 1927 — December 14, 2016

Grace (Allen) Shattuck passed away on December 14, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Minnie Olson; first husband, Roy Allen; second husband, Leo Shattuck; brothers, Everett Olson, Robert Olson, Galen Olson; sister, Genevieve Minor; and step son, Steve Shattuck. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Bruce) McEachran; grandson, Desi McEachran; great-grandson, Carter McEachran; step-daughters, Alexandra Hoecherl, Margaret White, and Cathy Pierce Percey; and many nieces and nephews. Grace Lois Olson was born on August 23, 1927, in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. She was the second of 9 children. Grace and her siblings grew up in hard times, but they loved each other and the farm they grew up on. There are lots of stories about the old country school house, flooding and crossing the creek, and mischief in the barn. After high school graduation, Grace went to nursing school and worked as a Nurse-LPN at the Glen Lake Sanitorium. While there, she met Roy W. Allen and they married in 1951. They moved to Northeast Minneapolis and had one daughter, Lynn Marie. Every summer Grace and Lynn would leave the city and visit the farm in Walnut Grove. Those were good times with her beloved parents and brothers and sisters. In the sixties, Grace returned to work as an LPN at Minneapolis General Hospital. She continued to work there until her retirement. On October 5, 1972, her husband, Roy, passed away. After retirement, Grace enjoyed traveling and joined a square-dance group, which resulted in even more travel. At one of those square dances, Grace met Leo Shattuck. They were married April 28, 1984.

After years of living in the Twin Cities, Grace and Leo returned to her family's farm in Walnut Grove and she was able to enjoy life in the country once again. She even bought a couple of horses for an old-time buggy they bought. She kept herself busy trying to outsmart the deer who were always after her gardens and taking care of Leo and the horses. When Leo became ill, they moved to Lamberton, Minnesota. Leo passed away May 3, 2002. Grace's life included hard times and good times. But through it all, she was a kind, loving, and gentle person. She loved her family, and we'll never forget her beautiful smiles and laughter.

Love you mother! God will take care of you. Grace's family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the staff at Lino Lakes Assisted Living who cared for her. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 N. Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN. Interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Walnut Grove, MN.
