She was born March 23, 1917 to Gotfred and Martina Bohman, Swedish immigrants, on a farm in the
Forest
Lake
and
Scandia
area.
On April 20, 1942 she married Christian M. Nielsen of
White Bear Lake
, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2006.
They were well known dairy farmers near
Scandia
for their entire lives.
In August of 1997 they moved to
Bedford
to be near their daughter, Marilyn D. Anderson and her husband Kenneth.
Hazel and Chris were life-long members of
Elim
Lutheran
Church
in Scandia, and more recently
Calvary
Lutheran
Church
in
Bedford
.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Anderson and her husband Kenneth of Bedford; a son, Richard C. Nielsen and his wife Denise of Elizabethton, TN; four granddaughters, Katie el Helou of
Beirut
,
Lebanon
, Brenda Benson of
San Diego
,
CA
, Meagan Rountree of St. Louis, MO, and Joni Nielsen of Elizabethon, TN; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bernice Crompton of Slayton, MN and Beulah Opelia of Browersville, MN.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Bohman and Ethel Gillert; and three brothers, Walter, Herbert and Roy Bohman.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009 at
Elim
Lutheran
Church
, 20971 Olinda Trail North,
Scandia
.
The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
