Helga Regina Magda Beier Winandy passed away at the age of 86 years. She worked in an American Army base hospital in Germany where she met Richard Winandy and they later married in Germany. Helga and daughter Davina immigrated to Minnesota with Richard and then had daughter Marlys. Initially, Helga worked as a medical lab and xray technologist in Minnesota but later became a homemaker, raising Davina and Marlys. She enjoyed carpentry, actively working on the four houses they built and lived in. She became an active cross country skier, enjoyed winter snow shoeing, and loved hiking. Her favorite hiking location was the Lake Superior overlook on the Superior Hiking Trail at Tettegouche State Park. Helga and Richard lived in Forest Lake for over 20 years and spent much time involved in their three grandchildren's lives.
Helga will be deeply missed by daughter Davina, daughter Marlys, son-in-law Daniel, grandchildren Nicole, Derek, and Alex; sisters Martha and Ilse; sister-in-law Mavis, niece Suzanne, nephew Guy; and many other friends and family. She is preceded in death by husband Richard and parents Alois and Martha.
On February 28 2025, an extended family visitation at 10:00 and funeral mass at 11:00 will occur at the Church of St. Peter in Forest Lake followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery and a luncheon at the Church of St. Peter (St. Peter's Hall).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Friends of the Boundary Waters or a favorite charity of your choice.
