Irene M. Fedun

Irene May Fedun, a loving wife, mother, and member of the Columbus community, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024 at the age of 79. Born on May 25, 1944 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Irene was the daughter of Roland and Lorainne Fitch.
 
 Irene's journey of love and dedication began when she met the love of her life, Norman Fedun, during a summer vacation on Big Marine Lake. Their connection was instant and enduring, leading to their wedding on August 5, 1967. Together, they built a beautiful life in Columbus and were blessed with the gift of their son, Chris.
 
 Though Irene's occupation was that of a homemaker, she also worked as a bookkeeper and a part-time office assistant at Jerry’s Kitchens.
 
 Outside of her home, Irene enjoyed various hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation. She went fishing, tended to her flower gardens, created countless meals in the heart of her kitchen and also reserved Friday nights for bowling with great friends.  She also built an extensive jigsaw puzzle collection and challenged her mind with multiple crosswords and other types of puzzles.
 
 In their well-deserved retirement, Irene and Norm eagerly anticipated their winter getaways to Florida and Texas, relishing in the warm sun and making cherished memories together.
 
 Irene will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 56 years, Norm Fedun; her loving son, Chris (Kelly) Fedun, and her sister, Darlene "Dee" Bergquist and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Lorainne, and her brother, Bill Fitch, along with her sister-in-law, Mary Fitch.
 
 A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  Private family burial to be selected at a later date.
