James Roger Boyes, 80 of Forest Lake, MN formerly of Tamarack, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday November 27, at the University of MN Medical Center. Jim was born on October 18th, 1930 in McGregor son of Eddie and Dora (Friestad) Boyes. He attended the Tamarack School and high school in McGregor. He served in the Army during the Korean War in 1952 and 1953. He worked for one season on an ore boat that shipped on the Great Lakes for which he had many fond memories. Jim married Marlene David in 1956 and became father to four daughters, Cheryl and Yvonne of Forest Lake, Rhonda of St. Joseph, MN and Kathy of Woodbury, MN. He was Grandpa to eight grandchildren. Jim worked at Clyde Iron Works in Duluth and American Hoist in St. Paul; he retired from Midwest Motor Express after making many daily trips to Fargo or Grand Forks and back. Since retiring he has spent his time doing odd jobs, tinkering in the garage, feeding the birds and deer, and volunteering at Grace Alliance church where he and Marlene have been longstanding members. Jim was one those people who would be there to help anyone in need joyfully as quick as he could get there.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marlene; daughters: Cheryl, Yvonne, Rhonda, Kathy; eight grandchildren; brother Gene (Maureen) of Tamarack, Minnesota; other extended family and friends.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Grace Alliance Church, 432 11th Avenue SE, Forest Lake. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m., Thursday until the time of service at the church.
