Scanlon, Jerome “Jerry”, age 92, of Forest Lake, passed on Friday, January 14, 2022. Jerry will be remembered for the love of music he shared with his students and later with his fellow residents. He started piano lessons at the age of 16, which inspired a degree in music education. He played piano, violin, clarinet, many other instruments, directed school bands, taught private music lessons, and tuned pianos. He taught and tuned up until his retirement in 2015. Jerry also brought his musical talents to his role as an active member of the church choir at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and later at Cerenity Marian of St Paul. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud veteran, serving for the Air Force during the Korean War.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine; wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; sisters, Mary O’Brien and Pat Poliachik. He is survived by his children, Susan (Tom) Kreiner, Cathy (Jim) Stevenson, Tim (Karen) Scanlon, Tom (Lori) Scanlon; grandchildren, Theresa (TJ) Winczewski, Kevin (Kat) Kreiner, Karl (Christine) Kreiner, Eric (Becca) Kreiner, Joel Kreiner, Jennifer Stevenson, Matt Stevenson, Robert (Joelle) Scanlon, Katie Scanlon, Elise (Beejay) Mergillano, Mike (Robyn) Scanlon, Mari Scanlon, Andrei Scanlon, Paul Scanlon; 12 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way); 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Sandy) Scanlon, Mike (Leizl) Scanlon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Church of Saint Peter, 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake. For those unable to attend, mass will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/-ubbc-L5-iI Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake with a rosary at 7PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass at the church. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Cancer Research Institute or Church of St Peter in Forest Lake.
