He finished
his Earthly journey on June 17, 2010.
Preceded in death by his second wife Marian (48 years); first wife Ruth; son Gerald; and brother Ken. Survived by his children, Tom (Diann) Mike, Diane (Roy) Rueb, Darrell Thurnbeck; daughter-in-law Bonnie Mike; grandchildren, Tom, Tim (Wanda), Michelle (Dan) Russell, Sherry, Alan, Vicki Jarvis, Kristi Mike, Sue Radden, Cathy Skoglund, Tom (Mel) Skoglund, Carol (Tim) Suess, Paul Skoglund, Serese (Brian) Honebrink, Jake (Jane) Thurnbeck, Carla (Dale) Nordenstrom; 25 great grandchildren; and, brother Lee (Flossie).
After high school, he worked at the Tower-Soudan Mine, to pay his way through Gustavus Adolphus college. He taught Business classes in Barnum and Forest Lake. John went on to banking, at the State Bank of Barnum, Forest Lake State Bank and the 1st National Bank of Browning, MT, where he served as President. John was an extraordinary person - touching many people - always interested in their personal lives.

Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation 5:00~8:00 p.m., Tuesday and one hour prior to service Wed. at the funeral home. Interment at Scandinavian Cemetery.
