Joseph George Steiner, 75, longtime resident of Willernie Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Chisago City on December 7th, 2014. Joe is preceded in death by his daughter Dorothy Ann, his father Carl, mother Theresa and brother Richard. Joe is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Michael (Alissa), daughter Kathleen (Perry) Rosentreter, daughter Theresa (Kevin) Rieger, son Joseph (Jolynn) and daughter Kari (Todd) Berg. 15 grandchildren, Michael (Chi) Steiner, Jacob (Amber) Steiner, Rene Vargas, Jeremy (Melanie) Smalley, Leah (Tony) Brehm, Andrew Voelk, Megan Mathson, Katlyn Rieger, Jacquelyn Rieger, Kirsten (Jeremy) Bernard, Rachel (Drew) Duffy, Emily Berg, Benjamin Berg, Natalie Berg and Daniel Berg. 11 great grandchildren, Sophia, Alyson, Ava, Ella, Katreana, Mason, Keith, Nathan, Connor, Dylan, Amelia. Brothers, David (Raye) Steiner and Edward Steiner. Joe is also survived by many loving inlaws, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Joe was an avid Minnesota Sports Fan. If you ever wanted to know where Joe was, he was most likely watching his favorite team on the field, court or ice – often at the same time on the radio or television. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing. Joe graduated from Johnson High School in 1957 and enlisted in the Navy shortly after. After his enlistment ended he was working as a construction worker when he met his wife of 53 years Dorothy. After a short courtship they married on June 17, 1961. Over the next years they raised their 5 children in Willernie while Joe took on the career of an over the road truck driver. He worked for several companies until he started Joe's Trucking and was an independent driver for Schwing America for over 20 years until his retirement in 2007. In 1981 he was blessed with the arrival of his first of 15 grandchildren. This was a life changing moment that pushed Joe into improving his health for his new role of grandpa. He went from smoking nearly 5 packs of cigarettes a day to being smoke-free overnight. This was the kind of person Joe was. When he made up his mind to do something …it was done. In 2006 Joe was diagnosed with B Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He fought his way through that even with a side track of a shattered shoulder which led to a shoulder replacement. He was in remission until around 2010 when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Joe's health declined gradually after this. A time of gathering will be held on Friday December 12th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the VFW in Forest Lake. The memorial service begins at 3:00 pm.
