Kathleen M. Ammann

Kathleen Mary Ammann, 78, of Forest Lake, MN, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024, due to complications related to sepsis.  Kathy was born on July 24, 1945, to Joseph and Helen (Anderson) Ammann.  She grew up in Frogtown with her 3 sisters and 1 brother.  She is a proud graduate of St. Agnes High School, Class of 1963.  

Kathy's journey in life was filled with socializing and joyfully teasing friends and family, usually while nibbling on white popcorn and drinking Pepsi.  She had a deep love for her extended family and maintained close bonds with her many relatives.  Kathy was at her best around the holidays when faith and family came together.  Christmas was her favorite holiday.  Her playful spirit, radiant smile and emotive eyes were on full display then.  She was known for supplying the grasshoppers, ham, pecan bars and friendly banter.  She could often be heard laughing late into the night on Christmas Eve while setting out presents for her nieces and nephews.  

In 1972, Kathy moved to Forest Lake renting a cottage at the Forest Lake airport until she purchased her own home.  She worked in accounting at Kari Chiropractic, Chisago Lakes Medical Center and the U of M.  She played on the local softball team and spoiled her pets.  She spent 12 years living and traveling with her significant other Dr. Gordon Hovde, before he passed away.  In 2021, she moved into assisted living where she essentially became the social director, gardener, jokester and so forth.  She also enjoyed reading mystery novels, visiting with friends and trying her luck at the casino.  She recently received hospice care where her final weeks were filled with love and a sense that the river of life charts a safe passage home.  She was comforted in her faith knowing that she would be taking a plane ride home to heaven to be with Jesus.  She passed clutching a crucifix over her heart.          

Kathy is survived by her sisters, Barbara Runion, Judy (Tom) Toth, Joan (John) Bergstrom; brother, Larry Ammann; nieces and nephews, Sandy (Cory) Keister, Mike (Gina) Benjamin, JoAnn Toth, Patricia Toth, Joseph (Becky) Toth, John (Cari) Toth; many cousins, other family members and dear friends.  We take comfort in knowing that Kathy's soul is resting in eternal peace while our memories of her live on to inspire us all.    

A memorial service to a life well lived with be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Mattson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN 55025.  Family will greet guests one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  A luncheon will follow at the funeral home.
