Kathleen Diane Sundsrud

Kathleen "Kathy" D. Sundsrud, age 81, was welcomed into heaven on September 24, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. 

Kathy was born June 18, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Woodrow and Marian Swift. She had two brothers, Terry (deceased) and Ronald; and two half-brothers, Ted and Mike.

Kathy‘s mother died when Kathy was 7 years old. She was raised by her father with her two brothers, Ron, who was 5, and Terry, who was 12 at the time.  Almost immediately, Terry, was taken from them and moved to California to be with his father.  This was a great loss for Kathy.

Kathy and Ron grew up together in a rough neighborhood in tough conditions.  This brought them together to care and support one another through the hard times. They both graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis, MN.

In February 1963, Kathy married Jerry Sundsrud.  They were together for 61 years. They had 3 sons, John in 1966, Mark in 1968, and James 1969. For a time, she had to take care of three babies in diapers, the horses, the dogs and the cats. She was a wonderful, loving, busy mother and wife. 

Kathy loved children and young people. Their home was a gathering place for all the kids in the neighborhood.

Kathy volunteered and helped at Johnsville elementary school. 

At Peace Lutheran Church, she was involved with the youth group and other activities. With Peace Lutheran Church, they went to Juneau, Alaska, and built a church near the Mendenhall glacier. They also had projects and helped small churches in Maine, Chicago, IL, and other cities. She helped with youth conventions in Denver, Dallas and elsewhere.

Kathy loved music. It all started with the music of the 1940s.  Her mother often had the radio tuned into The Andrew Sisters.  When Rock & Roll became popular though it stole her heart! She loved to dance too.

The family is very thankful for the loving and excellent care given by the Accent care hospice team. 

 Kathy will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her even if they only knew her a little while.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church, 20 Northdale Blvd NW, Coon Rapids, MN.  Family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial at Withrow Cemetery.
