Larry Gene Pogue “JR”, age 53, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, after beating cancer and fighting a stroke.
Born on June 15, 1970, JR led a life filled with passion and adventure, touching the hearts of many with his unwavering kindness and selfless nature.
Throughout his life, JR found immense joy in the great outdoors, expressing his love for hunting by spending countless hours in pursuit of deer and bear. His adventurous spirit also led him to the thrilling world of dirt track car racing, where he left a lasting mark with his remarkable achievements, including 11 feature wins and a commendable second-place finish in the points standings at Arlington in 1993.
A man of many hobbies and interests, JR took pleasure in riding ATV’s, camping, and attending dog shows with his beloved wife. He proudly established the 1 Acre Ranch and was known for his meticulous Snap-On toolbox and tools, symbolizing his dedication to craftsmanship and precision. JR’s enthusiasm for riding his Harley and sending exuberant sometimes all-caps texts illuminated his vibrant personality, endearing him to those around him. JR’s favorite day was April 1st and planned many pranks, many of them involving chickens.
Always willing to lend a helping hand, JR’s generous spirit shone brightly during challenging times, including his invaluable support during the 35W bridge collapse. Even in the face of adversity, JR’s resilience was evident as he conquered cancer and bravely battled through a stroke, demonstrating remarkable strength and fortitude.
As we gather to honor JR’s life, let us remember him with love, gratitude, and fondness, reflecting on the joy and light he brought into our lives. May we find solace in the cherished moments shared with JR, and may his legacy continue to inspire kindness and generosity in us all.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Margaret Pogue, Eugene Fiecke; brother, Robert, Scott Michael; sister, Michelle; uncles, Earl, and Chuck.
He is survived by wife, Kim; daughter, Emily; father, Larry (Tracie) Sr.; mother, Carol (Terry Thompson); grandma, Leona Fiecke; brother, Greg (Angie); stepsister, Jeannie (Brian) Eckert; stepbrother, Joey Opsahl; nieces and nephews, Trevor, Michael, Mackenzie, Lucy, Bella, Cassie, Mara; many aunts, uncles, other family members and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Family will be greeting friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
