Laurel Johnson

Laurel Joanne Johnson passed away on July 16, 2016 at the young age of 87. Laurel was born September 28, 1928 in Scandia to parents (Carl) Elwood and (Esther) Evelyn Anderson (Magnuson). She graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1946 and should have been Valedictorian of her class. Laurel's fear of giving the commencement address motivated her to purposely do poorly on a test to bring down her GPA. For a shy lady she was always busy helping others. There wasn't a church or community event in Scandia that Laurel wasn't contributing her time, delicious baked goods or on kitchen duty. Laurel lived in Scandia most of her life and loved her family, church and dear lifelong friends. She was always saying how blessed she was but it was her family who felt the blessing of her unconditional love. Laurel is survived by children Sandy Brom (Ray Grinsteinner), Sue Sandager, Mitch (Amy) Johnson; Grandchildren - Paul (Emily) Sandager, Alexa (Travis) Hoekstra, Kate (John) Dulaney, Greg (Andrea) Sandager, Alison (Nate) Hildre, and Kyle (Danielle) Johnson. Great Grandma cuddles will be greatly missed by Maddie, Charley, Olivia, Howie, McKenzie and Evelyn. Family will greet friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 N. Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2016, at Elim Lutheran Church, 20971 Olinda Trail North, Scandia, MN.
