Lloyda W. Moy passed away peacefully at the age of 96 surrounded by loving family and care providers on February 28, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dulcinea Arellano and Delfino Martinez; multiple siblings, her husband, Ernest Moy, and most recently her son, Alan Moy, MD.

She is survived by her remaining son, James Moy MD (Nina Fertey MD); grandchildren, Keith Moy (Jen Calvo), Andrew Moy (Viet Anh), Hannah Moy (Joe Ranieri), Stephen Moy, Lisa Ann Moy, Jennifer Moy-Seo (John), Bridget Moy; great grandchildren, Violet Moy, Ethan Moy; Alan’s wife, Jeannie Moy; her brother Delfino (Loretta) Martinez; multiple nieces and nephews, many of whom remain dedicated to Lloyda, honoring and loving her.

Lloyda was born in Costilla, New Mexico, but spent most of her living years in Sacramento, California. She received her nursing degree at Loretto Heights College Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 at Denver, Colorado. She initially worked at Mercy Hospital for about a year before working as a Staff Nurse at Alamosa Community Hospital. Lloyda moved to Sacramento, California in 1954 where she worked at Sutter General Hospital. While working for 18 years at Sutter General Hospital she worked in various departments, SICU/MICU (Intensive Care), Recovery Room, ER, Central Supply. Her responsibilities included being the charge nurse in these departments when needed.

In the spring of 1954 she married her husband, Ernest Moy, and together they started a family. She went on to take courses toward nursing educator at Sacramento State College in 1957. She received her B.S. in Nursing and Public Health Nursing Certificate at California State University System in 1972. In 1972 she changed her career from being a staff nurse at Sutter General Hospital. Lloyda took a position at the State of California Department of Health, Field Licensing Services as Health Facility Representative Nurse. As an HFR nurse, she conducted inspections, investigations, surveys, and evaluations of health facilities for conformity with licensing and certification of the Department of Health. Primary responsibility was for enforcement of State and Federal laws, and regulations pertaining to areas affecting total patient care such as nursing, physician staff, restorative, pharmacy, dietary, social, dental, and related services. Working for the State of California Department of Health required traveling out of town, being away from family, and dealing with the bureaucracy and politics of the healthcare system. To improve her quality of life and safety, she took a position at Los Rios Community College Sacramento as a vocational nursing instructor until she retired in 1997. Her dedication to teaching trained many nursing students who went on to practice competent and loving nursing care.

Lloyda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her Catholic faith was the bed rock of Lloyda’s character.

In lieu of flowers etc., donations can be given to Sisters of Mercy in remembrance of Lloyda W. Moy.
