Lois E Elsenpeter, a beloved homemaker of Marine on Saint Croix, Minnesota, passed away at the age of 96 on February 18, 2024, in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her family.
Throughout her rich life, Lois found joy in the simple pleasures – from tending to her garden and canning vegetables to creating intricate quilts that graced her home. Her passion for quilting even led to a proud moment when she entered one of her works in the Minnesota State Fair. Lois and her husband shared a love for square dancing and embarked on numerous adventures together during his retirement. It was during those trips that Lois began her vast collections of glass bells, pie birds and her amazing assortment of rolling pins. The rolling pins remained on display for all to see in her kitchen.
Always a welcoming presence, Lois's door was open to all, offering a listening ear, sage advice, and heartfelt words of wisdom. She took great delight in spending time with her family spanning multiple generations, relishing in the laughter and joy they brought into her life. A lover of games and puzzles, Lois's competitive spirit shone through during Scrabble matches and leisurely activities like jigsaw puzzles.
A devoted Minnesota Twins fan, Lois held a deep passion for baseball, following the team's every move and reveling in the excitement of their games. Her collection of Twins memorabilia, including the iconic Homer Hanky, showcased her unwavering support for the team she adored. She rarely missed a televised game and was lucky enough to attend a few home games over the years.
In her community, Lois was a valued member of the Order of Eastern Star and a lifelong supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, embodying her commitment to service and camaraderie.
Her warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The legacy of Lois Elsenpeter lives on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, William and Elizabeth Rapp; husband, Richard; daughter, Alice Johnson; son-in-law, Glenn Johnson; daughter-in-law, Linda Elsenpeter; siblings, Mae, Emma, Betty, Lorraine, Carol, Sonny.
She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to be loved by her including her children, Wayne (Jean), Bruce, Vernon (Cathy), Roy (Ronda); many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; sisters, Evie Mueller, Elys Lee, Lavern Nyberg, Margie Hoffman; nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 150 Fifth Street, Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis; assembly area #3.
