Lucile Lind

February 18, 1920 — August 1, 2011

Lucile Janet Fuglie Lind, born in Lakeville, MN on February 18, 1920, and a resident of her beloved Forest Lake for 86 years, died August 1, 2011. A child of the depression and World War II, she embodied the common values of that generation: duty, honor, economy, courage, service, love of family and country and, above all, responsibility for oneself. Lucile was a graduate of Forest Lake High School in what she called the 'Great Class of 1938'. She was independent, tenacious, funny, generous, loyal, and sociable. She took great pride in her family, her town, her bank, her Faith Lutheran church, in being Norwegian and her affiliations with several organizations. She was a life member of the Forest Lake Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliary; and she worked many years with the Forest Lake Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Lucile and her late husband Paul were the Worthy Grand Matron and Patron of the Chapter and she was also a Grand Officer (Grand Ruth) for the State of Minnesota. Her work with these organizations brought her joy, camaraderie and a sense of service. Lucile worked at the Forest Lake State Bank for nearly 50 years and at age 83 "changed jobs" to become the "Cookie Lady" once a month at the Forest Lake MainStreet Bank. She loved her work, her employers, her co-workers and her customers. She was nationally famous for being upbeat and always ready for fun. She is remembered for her flair for costumes at Halloween & Oscar parties and for her awesome macaroni and cheese! She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Julena Sjerdal Fuglie; brothers, Marvin Fuglie and Donald Justison; and her beloved husband Paul. She's survived by daughter, Julena Lind (Leon LeBuffe); son, Lester "Buster" Lind (Cyndee); grandchildren, Peter Lind, Carmen Bertsch, Jackson Lind-LeBuffe; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Bertsch; and goddaughter, Ardenea Fuglie Thomas; as well as ten Lind nieces & nephews and many Fuglie first cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday August 7, at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Dr., Forest Lake, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send a donation in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
