Marion Klinefelter

January 1, 1922 — January 17, 2012

Marion, the eldest of three sisters, was born in St. Paul to Renhold and Ruth Sandberg. After moving to the Macalester neighborhood, she attended the nearby Groveland School, where she enjoyed ice skating in the winter months. In 1933, she traveled with her aunts to Chicago to see the World's Fair. Marion graduated from Central High School in 1939, and due to her outstanding scholarship, she earned the distinctive honor of being elected to the Historical Society. Marion later studied psychology at the University of Minnesota and graduated with honors in 1943. She was also a member of PSI CHI, a national honorary society in psychology. While attending college, Marion was introduced to Arthur Klinefelter, and in March of 1946, after Art returned from duty with the Navy during World War II, they were married. Marion and Art raised their three children—Dean, Diane, and Gary—in West St. Paul and in Roseville. Marion supported her children as they grew up, giving much attention to their progress in school and their involvement in church and youth activities. While their children were young, Art and Marion attended Central Baptist Church and were active in the "Home Builder" group. After moving to Roseville in 1957, they attended Bethany Baptist Church. As Art's life insurance agency grew, Marion became life-long friends with the wives of the agency salesmen. These friends and their families enjoyed many weekend outings, agency picnics, and trips to sales conventions in other parts of the country. Many of Marion's extended family lived or spent their summers at Big Marine Lake, where they spent their free time swimming and visiting her uncle's farm. In the winter months, skating on the lake and sledding were common activities. Marion and Art spent many summers with their children staying at "the Hutch," a cottage overlooking Big Marine Lake. Art and Marion later purchased land from Marion's uncle and built their own cabin, which would come to be a place for family and friends to visit while fishing, swimming, sailing, and waterskiing. In 1976, Marion and Art built a year-round home at Big Marine Lake, where they enjoyed their retirement years in the country. While living in the Scandia area, Marion volunteered as a trail guide for Warner Nature Center for fifteen years. Art and Marion often visited Florida or Texas for a month or two in the winter, providing more time for them to golf, which they enjoyed doing with friends. On January 1st 2012, friends and family gathered to celebrate Marion's 90th

birthday. Marion was always ready to serve others. Whether it was serving another meal, promoting a better diet, or just making you feel more at home, she was always there to make your life better. We enjoyed baking cookies, cross country skiing, bird watching, and doing puzzles with her. She encouraged her children to read, pursue knowledge, and excel in school. Marion challenged our thinking and was willing to debate difficult topics. She was there to help us pursue our passions, and she was an advocate for the ones she loved. Her psychology degree served her well as she raised her three children. She demonstrated her love for others through her kind and gentle nature.

A Celebration of Marion's Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Immanuel Church, 9511 W. Broadway Ave., Forest Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at church. Interment at 10:30 a.m. Assembly Area 6 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, January 23, 2012. Memorials preferred.
