Marlene Heaton

February 2, 1934 — April 3, 2016

Marlene was born February 2, 1934 in St. Paul, MN to David and Florence Nelsen. After growing up in North St. Paul, MN, she graduated North St. Paul High School in 1952. She married James Chatterton and raised four children in White Bear Lake, MN. After divorcing, she met and married Ed Heaton, who had five children of his own and moved to Cottage Grove, MN, where she began the task of now raising nine children. Marlene waitressed at several restaurants including, Dave's Pizza, Lakeside Inn, Bali Hai, The County Point and of course the Holiday Inn where she liked to tell the story of waiting on Elton John. Later she became a proofreader at West Publishing Company in St. Paul until retiring in 1996. Marlene and Ed moved to Stacy, MN in 2001. They both became members of the Forest Lake American Legion and this is where Marlene spent much of her time volunteering and working the bingo hall and with the Ladies Auxiliary. She also became Sergeant at Arms in 2007. Marlene loved to play bingo and go to Hinckley with her girls. She loved spending time with her family and all of her grandchildren. Her parents, sister Delores Bode, brother Bruce Nelsen and her husband Ed Heaton precede Marlene in death. She is survived by her sister, Karen (Ken) Bittner; children, Deb (Paul) Wilson, Denise Chatterton, Diane (Jim) Olson, and Mike (Karen) Chatterton; step-children, Tim, Linda, Kathy (Bob) Roche, Pat and Cheri (Jason) Rumpca; grandchildren, Tanya (Rick), Gregg, Jason, Christopher (Jenny), Paul, Tom (Nicole), Maggie, Shannon, Wesley (Crystal), Jesse (Carrie), Brian (Kate), Erin (Greg), Seth (Samantha), Joseph, Mitchell, Danielle (Tyler), Brianna, James (Catherine), Maxine (Brandon), Katrina, Sam, Austin, Jennifer (Jesse), Luke, Zachary, Mary, Brian and Jason; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Dillon, Rikki, Reece, Cameron, Dominick, Logan, Addison, Amelia, Olivia, Emily, Alicyn, Mark, Liam and Lilian; great-great grandchild Louis; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Family and Friends will gather for a Time of Sharing at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the sharing at the funeral home. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
