Mary I. Nelson "Midge", age 95, of Wyoming, MN, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. She was born on November 22, 1921 in St Paul, MN to Russell and Irene (Goyette) Millward, and welcomed into the family by sister Lorraine. When Mary was 4 her mother married Jim Martin and soon siblings Betty, Ken and Dorothy completed the family.
Mary attended Humboldt High School and graduated in 1940. Her participation in the school's tumbling team gave her the opportunity to be a trampoline aerial jumper in the St Paul Winter Carnival Parade. It was at this school where she met her future husband to be.
Mary was united in marriage to Edward George Lancette in the St Louis Church, St Paul, MN in June of 1941. They resided in St Paul's Westside with their three sons, Dennis, Lawrence and Gerald. Her favorite pastime and lifetime hobby was tending her flower gardens. Ed, along with the help of many others and Mary, incorporated the Minne-Mine Credit Union in 1954. Her subsequent job titles included teller, treasurer, loan officer and office manager. Ed was blind the last three years of his life and Mary served as his eyes for all written business transactions. On weekends she sold Mutual Service Insurance. Ed passed away October 25, 1958.
Mary was united in marriage to Lawrence Gothard Nelson on July 24, 1965. With this union Jeanette was added to the family, as well as Larry's children Darlene, Susan, Larry Jr., Robert, Debi, Kandy and Jody. In 1966 Mary left Minne-Mine Credit Union and was employed by Whirlpool Credit Union for 3 years. Larry and Mary built a home on Pet Lake in Stacy, MN and moved in 1972. In this new location she became involved with her community as the treasurer of Fawn Lake Association. 35 years at this homestead was made beautiful by her flower gardens and manicured lawn. For 35 years Mary hosted Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas for groups as large as 50 for the sole purpose of getting her children together. Larry passed away in March of 2007.
Within months Mary sold her home, packed up and moved to Lake Square Apartments in White Bear Lake, MN. She made friends easily and quickly in the 5 years she resided here. Following an illness she moved to Meadows at Fairview in Wyoming, MN. She passed away peacefully on September 11, 2017.
She was preceded in death by parents, 1st husband, Edward Lancette; 2nd husband, Larry. Survived by children, Dennis Lancette, Larry (Barb) Lancette, Gerry (LuAnn) Lancette, Darlene (Mike) Luger, Susan (Walt) Jocketty, Larry (Marsha) Nelson, Bob (Maryann) Nelson, Debi (Lester) Dahn, Kandy Nelson, Jody (LeRoy) Romero, Jeanette (Brian) Chilson; thirty-five grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister, Dorothy (Jim) Chatterton; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM with Celebration of Her Life at 6 PM, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Interment at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
