Mary Ochocki

December 1, 1954 — June 17, 2024

Forest Lake

In loving memory of Mary Ochocki, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, whose legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Mary, born on December 1, 1954, dedicated her life to caring for others, working tirelessly in the healthcare field for four decades at VOA Homestead Maplewood and winning the esteemed "Caregiver of the Year" award from the State of Minnesota in 2009 for her unwavering compassion.

Mary's selflessness extended far beyond her professional life. As a candy striper and nursing assistant, she touched countless lives with her kind and nurturing spirit. She even earned the name “The Candy Lady” for her love of handing out fun size candy bars to everyone. Her passion for giving back was evident in the countless themed fundraiser baskets she meticulously planned and assembled, always seeking to make a difference in the lives of others.

Away from work, Mary found solace in the beauty of nature, particularly during her travels to the North Shore to admire the lighthouses and relax by the tranquil waters of Lake Superior with her favorite romance novels in hand. Her love for the simple pleasures in life, such as enjoying a cold Diet Pepsi and her soft spot for animals, showcased her gentle and caring nature.

Mary's 50-year marriage to her beloved husband, Terrance, was a testament to a love that stood the test of time, beginning as a love at first sight. Their bond was a source of strength and joy for both of them, creating a beautiful partnership filled with love and devotion.

Even in her passing on June 17, 2024, Mary continued to give the gift of sight by donating her eyes to the Lions Gift of Sight Eye Bank, embodying her lifelong dedication to helping others. Mary's impact on the world around her will live on through the memories shared by family, friends, and all those touched by her kindness and generosity.

She is preceded in death by father, Roy Zinda; mother, Adeline Zinda Otto; sisters-in-law, Dee (Roger) Danner, Marly Ochocki; brothers-in-law, Tom (Sheri)Ochocki, Ken (Mary) Ochocki.
