formerly of Hugo, passed away August 5, 2007 as a result of the Amyloidosis affecting his heart.

Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; paternal grandfather; and grandfather-in-law.

Matt is survived by his wife of 6 years, Carrie; their sons, Logan and Chase; parents, Len & Jessica; sister, Heidi; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Kijenski; Auntie Karen Kijenski (Mike Christiansen); parents-in-law, Dennis & Sue Schmitz; grandmother-in-law, Loretta Schmitz; brother-in-law, Ryan (Jodi) Schmitz, and their daughter, Avery; and hundreds of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Matt was born September. 8, 1972 in Mpls. He was raised in Hugo and graduated from Forest Lake HS in 1990. Matt met Carrie Schmitz in Mankato in 1995. They married there on September 29, 2001. They welcomed their sons, Logan in 2003 and Chase in 2006.

Matt started his career as an elementary teacher. He spent many years with Applebees Corp. and recently worked at Midwest Accounts Service in Mankato.

But first and foremost, his passion was teaching.

Matt had an incredible enthusiasm for life and family. He had a loving spirit and twisted sense of humor, so let's all raise our glasses to Matt.
