Maynard Michael Peterson, 72, passed away on February 5, 2024. He was born on December 1, 1951 to the late Maynard and Gertrude Peterson. He grew up in Coon Lake, where he loved to ride his bike, play ball and swim.
He graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1969. He married his wife, Gayla, on July 12, 1979 and had three children, Megan (Eric) Phillips, Marshall (Beth) Peterson, and Erin (Michael) Spears. When they were growing up, his favorite family activity was to travel in their RV to bike trails and state parks all over the Midwest.
He worked in the sound and lighting industry his whole life, which included everything from driving a young up-and-comer (Prince) home after recording sessions to lighting up the bridges in Chicago. His career contributed to friendships around the country and a huge repertoire of interesting stories.
He loved bicycling, spoiling his dogs, mowing his ever-expanding lawn, and tinkering in his shop. He could fix just about anything and took great pride in keeping things running that had no business doing so.
His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and tickled by their escapades.
He will be forever missed by his wife, children, and ten grandchildren (Piper, Miles, Reid, Lane, Paige, and Spencer Peterson, Luke and James Phillips, and Lana and Margo Spears), as well as his brother, Randy Peterson (Jennifer Bloom), sisters, Barb (Rick) Pentilla and Eileen Peterson (Bill Abler), and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A time of sharing will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. The family will greet friends one hour prior at the funeral home.
