N. Eugene Berven

age 94

of Forest Lake

Born and raised in Centerville, South Dakota. He attended Principia College in St. Louis, Missouri, received his BA from Yankton College in Yankton, South Dakota and went on to do post graduate work at the U of M in Minneapolis. After graduating he taught high school in rural South Dakota.

He served in WWII as a technical advisor to the Air Force in Foggia, Italy, specializing in aircraft guidance systems. He married Alice Bentz on January 26, 1946 and they celebrated 61 years of marriage together. In 1975 Gene retired from Honeywell where he worked as an aeronautical engineer for over thirty years. Gene was a charter member of the Forest Hills Country Club, one of the founders of the Forest Lake Sportsman's Club and a member of the Forest Lake Lions Club. Gene especially enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and music and he always considered himself to be the luckiest man in the world.

He is preceded in death by wife, Alice and infant sister.

Survived by sister, Rosemary Johnson; children, Matthew (Judy) Berven, Peter (Nancy) Berven, Mary (Kent) Karlsson, Kathryn (Barbara Hamilton) Berven, and Steven (Shelley) Berven; grandchildren, Sonja (Jae) Berven Chong, Mark Berven, Leigh Berven, Krister and John Karlsson, Olivia and Eliot Berven; and great-grandson, Kaeden Berven Chong.

Memorial Service will be held at 1pm, Sunday, January 21, 2006 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will be from 2-5pm, Saturday, January 20, 2006 at the funeral home.
