Patrick "Pat" Cline

May 30, 1947 — April 21, 2023

Maplewood

Patrick "Pat" Cline, age 75, of Maplewood, roared into heaven and was welcomed into the arms of his Almighty Father on April 21, 2023. He was born on May 30, 1947 in Staples, Minnesota to Roy and Dorothy (Monk) Cline. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up in Staples and attended Staples High School. In 1967, he married Iris and had two children, Rick and Lisa Marie.  The union dissolved amicably in 1979.  While attending Church of Acts, he met his pint-sized angel, Cheryl, and her three children, Domonica, Debbie, and AnnMarie.  In 1982, they became one family and over time grew to include 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  During his career, he devoted many years as a service technician to Soderberg Optical and Minnesota Public Housing.

Pat developed a love of vehicles and driving the open road as a teenager. He enjoyed working on cars, trucks, motorcycles, and anything else with a set of wheels, including his mobility scooter.  Pat cherished his blue 1940 Chevy Special Deluxe hotrod and hanging out with his “hot-rodder” friends at Back To The 50’s Weekend and other local car shows.  He loved his grandchildren and put on many miles attending their events as they grew older.  Pat also loved family celebrations where he would give a heartfelt blessing of the meal and finish singing “Happy Birthday” with his trademark line of “. . . and many more!”  Other favorite activities included:  camping, visiting the North Shore, men’s Bible Study, plus hunting and fishing with his son.  Pat had a unique sense of humor with a deadpan expression or sarcasm followed by a big laugh and smile.  Underneath his initial gruff exterior, Pat had a heart of gold and was always willing to share his talents, finances, home, vehicles, and self-built trailers with those in need while saying “Let’s get ‘er done!”.

Preceded in death by wife, Cheryl (Vaillancourt) Cline; daughter, AnnMarie (Chilefone) Bashynski; parents, Roy and Dorothy (Monk) Cline; sister, Betty deVaudreuil; parents-in-law, Beecher Sr. and Maryann (Zoccoli) Vaillancourt; sister-in-law, Barb Cline; brothers-in-law Louie, Bucky, Teddy Vaillancourt and Jerry Yobbie.  He is survived by: children, Rick (Cheryl), Domonica (Clint) Finne, Debbie (Erik) Teske, Lisa Marie (Jay) Lovgren; son-in-law, Bart Bashynski; grandchildren, James, Jake, Jessica, Nick, Isabel, Bryce, Austin (Julia), Caitlyn, Crysta (Ross), Benjamin, EmmaMarie, Marty, Cayden; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Lawrence, Jaylynn, Roger; siblings, Marge Ervin, Dave Cline; sisters-in-law Valerie Yobbie, Renae (Lou) Vitiello, Michelle (Zane) Morgan; brothers-in-law Beecher Jr. (Linda) Vaillancourt, Robert (Colleen) Vaillancourt; former wife, Iris (Richmond) Lomnes.

Since Pat was a heart and liver transplant recipient, the family would like to offer sincere gratitude to his organ donor, the Mayo Clinic, Polar Ridge Senior Living, Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood, and his Hospice care team.
