Paul Nitschke

Paul R. Nitschke, age 71 of Scandia, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born November 29, 1937 in New York City, New York, the son of Robert and Helen (Landau) Nitschke. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country from 1958-1964. Paul and Antoinette Helmberger were united in marriage on October 30, 1971 in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. Paul was a proud employee of 3M where he worked for 31 ½ years before retiring in 1998. In his free time, Paul enjoyed bird watching and feeding the birds on his property. He also looked forward to cutting wood, hiking, the longer the hike the better; along with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a Snickers bar. He and his family enjoyed many trips to the North Shore and were especially fond of their stay at Naniboujou Lodge on Lake Superior. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years Antoinette; children Robert, Elizabeth (Berent) DeWolfe; grandson Leo DeWolfe; sister Anne Nitschke.
