Phyllis Poynter

Phyllis Elaine (Patrin) Poynter was born on February 4, 1934 in Balsam Lake Township, Polk County Wisconsin, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Nelson) Patrin. As a youth, Phyllis attended schools in Polk County Wisconsin and graduated from the St Croix Falls high school in 1952. During her freshman through junior year she stayed at the St Croix Falls hospital and worked as a nurse’s aide, while attending all her classes. Then during her senior year, she worked full time at State Farm Insurance Co in St Paul, attended evening classes at Mechanic Arts High School and transferred her credits so that she could go to the Prom and graduate with her St Croix high school classmates. After graduation she worked for the VA at Fort Snelling while working part time jobs at Montgomery Ward and Port’s Restaurant in St Paul. In 1953 she transferred to the USDA in Mpls, while continuing to work at Ports Restaurant evenings and weekends. On June 25, 1961 she was united in marriage to Adrian Poynter in Balsam Lake, WI. Adrian was employed at Univac, at the time, and shortly after their marriage they bought a Dairy Store (with an attached apartment) in South St Paul that Phyllis managed during the day, while Adrian worked at Univac. In 1965 they sold the Dairy Store and had a new home built in Inver Grove Heights, MN that they occupied for 7 years before moving, in May 1972, to their present home in Forest Lake, MN.
Phyllis and Adrian transferred membership to Faith Lutheran Church, upon moving to Forest Lake, where Phyllis was always active in Church Circles and volunteered her time to drive meals on wheels in the community. She also volunteered many miles each year driving senior citizens, to wherever they needed to go, and she always had a long list of senior friends that would call her, just to talk. She enjoyed baking and would sell her fruit cakes and other baked goods around Christmas time.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 47 years, Adrian Poynter, of the same address in Forest Lake, MN; one son Paul and his wife, Wendy of Forest Lake, MN (grandson Jonah and granddaughter Sophie Lynn); sister Betty Brust of Dresser WI; sister Donna Johnson and her husband Richard of St Croix Falls, WI; sister Sharon Wassberg and her husband Richard of Cape Coral, FL; and brother Peter Patrin and his wife Mary of Grantsburg, WI.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Paula and sister, Ruth Donaghue.
Funeral Service 11:00, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Church 886 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation 5:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at church. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
