Richard Hoffman

Richard Hoffman, age 74 of Chisago City, Minnesota, formerly of Saint Paul, Minnesota died, Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Richard was born September 25, 1939 in Saint Paul, Minnesota the son of Roy and Grace (Griffith) Hoffman. He attended Harding High School in Saint Paul. He was united in marriage to Joyce Keenan during a ceremony in Iowa. Together they owned and operated a gas station in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He and Joyce separated and he was united in marriage to Sharon Berglund on October 17, 1962. During that time he worked as a car runner for Midway and Polar Chevrolet. Shortly after he started his own interior and exterior painting company, which he operated for many years before his son's joined him. He was a Golden Glove boxer. In his free time, he enjoyed Judo. He began the Maplewood Judo Club in the early 1970's. He competed with many teams, traveling all over the United States and achieving his Black Belt. While the children were younger, many memorable trips were made to the Brainerd Lakes Area, where they visited Paul Bunyan Land and Horseshoe Lake. Following his marriage to Sharon, he spent over 30 years with Bonnie Bauer. In 1987 he built a home in Pine City, later moved to Cottage Grove before returning to the northern suburbs to be closer to his sons. Richard enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle "Spoiled Rotten", riding dirt bikes, Elvis, card games, shooting pool, bowling, playing softball, but most importantly he LOVED talking to anyone and sharing a great joke or two. He will be forever remembered as a generous, caring father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richie Jr.; brother, Ed Hoffman; sister, Lavania Beguhl; former wife, Joyce Snider. He is survived by his sons, Dan (Cindy) Hoffman, Kevin Hoffman, Mark Hoffman, Jesse Hoffman; step-son, Dion Bauer; nineteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; siblings, Adeline Flemming, Marlene Nielsen, Bob (Gloria) Hoffman; many other family and friends.
