Richard F. Martin, age 92, of Hugo, Minnesota, passed away, January 22, 2024, from complications of COVID. Dick was a graduate of Wilson High School and lived his early years in the Merriam Park area. All things hockey were a part of his life from a very early age starting with pickup games on the neighborhood rinks, Bantams, and on through high school games held at the old St. Paul Auditorium playing for the Wilson Redmen. After graduation, he served proudly with the U.S. Air Force stationed in Scotland and England. Upon completion of his military service, he returned home and worked with the Community Center, flooding rinks and coaching. He moved to the Forest Lake area in the late 50’s and continued coaching, refereeing and playing with the Old Timers League.
Dick spent his professional years as a Corporate Credit Manager in the Twin Cities and Fort Myers, Florida. With his wife Donna, they enjoyed traveling through the US and Canada taking in all the beauty of each area. During their 15-year stint living in Florida, they explored every nook and cranny of the peninsula enjoying seafood and sunsets along the way. Each winter found Dick and Donna looking forward to hosting family and friends booking flights to Fort Myers to get out of the Minnesota cold!
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Ed Hartlieb; brothers, Jim and Bob Martin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; daughter, Lori Carlson and her children Tony and Terra, grandson, Niko; stepdaughters, Deanna (Keith) Petroske, Mershawn (Roger) Pikus, Yvonne (Tom) Hendrickson and their seven children and 15 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marlene Martin and her children, Jeff, Kris, Steve and David; nephews, Craig and Todd Martin; niece, Carol Keene and their families.
