Richard Vernon Pickard, age 79, of Wyoming, Minnesota, formerly of Springfield, Missouri, died peacefully on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Richard was born December 16, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Arthur and Ruth (nee Martin) Pickard. He graduated from Lincoln High School and later moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota with his bride, Alice Ingwerson, where he took some classes at St. Paul Bible College. Richard and Alice were united in marriage on May 2, 1964, and they made their home and raised their children in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
In 1992, they moved to Springfield, Missouri to be closer to her family. It was there they became actively involved and were founding members of All Saint’s Anglican Church. While living in Springfield, Richard worked for Milky Way Transportation as a semi driver and safety director, retiring in 2018.
Richard was a gifted and talented organist and pianist, beginning with lessons at the age of 4. He was honored to share his abilities at numerous churches over the years. He continued playing the organ at All Saint’s Anglican Church until his eyesight began to fail and he moved to Wyoming, Minnesota to live with his son.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ruth; wife, Alice; sister-in-law, Rhonda Pickard; brother-in-law, Paul Ingwerson. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him including his children, Steven (Connie) Pickard, Michele (David) Bates, Susan (Matt Doran) Pickard, Jeanette French; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; brother, Herbert Pickard; sister-in-law, Kathy Ingwerson; brother-in-law, Tim (Cynthia) Ingwerson; many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at All Saint’s Anglican Church, 2751 East Galloway Street, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
