Richard “Rick” T. Mike Jr., age 57, of Forest Lake, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2023.
Rick grew up in Forest Lake on a hobby farm – after moving from the Cities there were lots of interesting stories and craziness with farm life. His dad took care of the farm and his mom showed prize Cairn Terriers. Rick even showed his Cairn Terrier, Misty, at a competition–ONCE. Growing up his passion was sports, especially hockey, but also enjoyed football, baseball, softball, fishing and hunting. His nick name was the rink rat because he was always at the rink practicing, while his dad coached, and he loved taking potshots at his brother who was goalie. He went to Mankato University as a “walk on” hockey player but besides all of the crazy fun he had with his roommates came back after one year. He worked in different jobs, but eventually ended up in sales. He married and moved to North Carolina where he had his son Brandon. He then moved back to Minnesota and had his second son Travis. Settling in Forest Lake, he eventually found Helen again who was his childhood crush and love of his life (Rick's girlfriend since 15!). They were married in 2005, with the whole wedding party on motorcycles. And so, the adventure and fun began. They did everything together including riding Harleys and found their way to Webb Lake where they built their cabin – almost from scratch. The Webb Lake Family was so very important to him, and his plan was to retire up there. He touched so many people and loved unconditionally. He will be with us all in spirit and we all have to hold on to the many many memories of all the fun, laughs and joy he brought us. Heaven must have needed some humor and Jesus must have wanted a best friend.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard “Tom” Mike, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; sons, Brandon Mike, Travis Mike; mother, Carol Mike; sister, Michele (John) Wenck; brother, Dan Mike; nephews, Chuck Snyder, Mathew Snyder; and his Webb Lake Family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 19001 Jackson Street. NE, East Bethel, MN. Family will be greeting friends and family two hours prior to the service at the church.
