Robert Gustafson

Robert Vance Gustafson, 89, of Chisago City, MN, passed away suddenly on June 29, 2024, after a heart attack. He had been recovering from a stroke.
Robert, known to friends and family as Bob or Gus, was born on March 19, 1935, in Bemidji, MN, to Adolph and Violet Gustafson. Bob worked predominantly in medical sales which involved a lot of travel as well as being involved in his community. Bob loved coaching basketball and baseball and being involved in the Lakes Area Recreation Association (L.A.R.A.). Bob was very involved with Chisago Lakes Baptist Church and his faith was a very important part of his life.
He was also involved with Gideons International and the Chisago Lakes Lions Club. Bob took a great interest in politics and served as a Chisago County Commissioner for 18 years; he was also elected multiple times as Mayor of Chisago City and he served over 7 years of his last term.
In his leisure time, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, hunting, and fishing.
Bob loved his family and was very proud of them. He was married to his wife, Melva, for almost 52 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, 6 of his 9 siblings, and his grandson, Nick. He is survived by his wife, Melva, children Kelly (Mo), Jon (Tina), Scott, Bobby, Deb (John), Dina, Greg, and Erin. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community, but we are at peace knowing he is in the arms of his Savior.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life at Chisago Lakes Baptist Church on July 26, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with the funeral starting at 11.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking either for donations toward medical and funeral expenses or to Gideons International.The family wants to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
