For a few years, he lived in Oregon near two of his four brothers, where he graduated from Barber School and worked in an engraving shop. The rest of his life was spent in and around the Twin Cities working in various capacities as a janitor, security guard, store clerk, etc.
Robert was active in church all through his life. He prayed and regularly read his Bible. For years Bob furnished homemade cookies to the sick, homebound and nursing homes.
He loved playing games, fishing, going to movies and going out to eat. Robert was a man who cherished history, with a special passion for Civil War narratives. His love for this period in history led him to explore battlefields and immerse himself in the stories of those who fought bravely. But most of all he loved his dogs over the years including most recently Sherlock and Lucky.
